Dangerously Close

Yes I know everyone is completely fed up with my constant promises of pictures and utter lack of follow through and I am dangerously close to losing you all as readers. What can I say, things have been a little hairy around here for me. With new standards to meet a school, kitties that need a little TLC and generally coping with the raging tempest that has taken residence in my mind it's sorta been on the back burner. But Chusok awaits and when it comes the country packs up and goes to visit family and ancestors in parts outside the city. What does this mean for me and you? Well I could travel, but what I really plan on doing is simple, NOTHING. Good old fashioned nothing. And at some point in this nothingness of an existence I should have the desire to SHOW you my world as well as write about it.

As for this weekend, what can I say there is never not something new for me to tell.
FRIDAY: When to see my first movie in Korea. And for the illustrious event we chose a movie that was in Mandarin with Korean subtitles. Gotta make things easy! So some of the things that make this event slightly off center from the norm that I am used to include: concessions that will not cost the same as a tank of gas in a 1979 Ford F150 extended cab truck, cups that have TWO yes two holes for soda sharing ('cuz u get the tall one I get the short one never really works), assigned seating for the show, pre-movie movies in the lobby with train station seating and my all time favorite the ticket taker waring a large yellow sash explaining his all to obvious purpose in life. As usual and to the chagrin of my cohorts I acted badly during the movie and laughed too loud and at all the wrong places, BUT I didn't use my handphone and keep my talking to a minimum. ha HA!

SATURDAY: Let's see woke up @ 10:30 only to lay on the couch and talk on the phone and watch T.V. until 3ish. Upon waking at 5 I began to clean and do laundry, only to go to bed around 11. AH nice. Now the only reason that I feel the need to bore you with this sad three sentences is simply because this is the FIRST time since moving here that I have had the chance to do this and wanted to wallow in the glory of it just one more time. Thanks for understanding, well back to the coal mines, only 5 more days until Chusok! :)

Ah yes, September 15th, See You At The Pole

Have to say it's been a while since i have participated in this even and as always it is a time of reflection and growth, not much else to do when your at school at 7:15 in the morning. But seriously, it was a ponderable thing, to forsake sleep, planning, copy and coffee time to spend time prayinf for what is to come ans what is happening around the world.

411

Okay so I thought I would steal this from another blog I was reading and share it with you all since I now have a hand phone and let me tell you that's a story. Sadly a story that has yet to be published since my computer decided to "refresh" it while I was working. But you may find this useful.

Calls from U.S. to Korean Cell Phone
OK, here are the results. With 10-10-987, my wife called a Korean cell phone (Speed 011) for 35 minutes for $1.79. That's roughly 5 cents per minute. Compare that to when I called a cell phone in Korea using direct dial through AT&T and it was about $2.50 a minute. Save that money and use 10-10-987! As you can see below, calls during business hours may be more expensive - not sure how the phone company breaks it down. Here are the details (times are Pacific Time Zone):5:47 pm 35 mins $1.797:44 am 5 mins $0.91

Korean Brutally Beaten @ ATM, film @ 11

So I had my first of no doubt many "cultural misunderstandings" where I attempt to keep my cool but truly want to be a rude american. Was stopping at the ATM on my way home things went from dead to people waiting in "line". So this guy decides that I am at the machine that he would like to use and I am taking too long. So he get right up behind me and does that whole personal space pressure thing. I just glared at him through the LARGE mirror that is the wall behind the ATM. To no effect it seems because when I bend over to put my $ in my backpack he starts using the ATM! When I stand up this guy is pretty much giving me a hug he's so close. So I get my stuff done and walk out, but I just had this desire to give this jerk a verbal lashing! I mean come on does it look like I want you in my back pocket while I pull cash out? I felt like treating him like one of my 6th grades and point to the otherside of the room and saying, "chogi!" (there!) OR in english get all black attitiude in his face and be like, "Do you know what personal space is? Get out of mine!" So yeah had to buy some yummys at the kagae to make things better.

Wow feeling much better!
