Getting in touch

All right one last thing and then I'm putting this girl to bed.

It seems that the little foray into "PUSA" land has opened up a whole "Cool music I used to listen to before I hid my inner geek to make the culturally sheltered Midwesterners comfortable" can of worms. I've spent the evening downloading and listening to yet another fav band They Might Be Giants (TMBG). They were the band that christened me into a musical style that I still can not find the words to define. Yeah it was Apollo 18 and summer camp what more does a 14 year old have to say. After that it was a short trip to Checkmate, Violent Femmes, Squirrel Nut Zippers and Cake to name a few.

And all of this makes me wonder why did I ever hide that girl who quote Star Trek:TNG from memory and listened to music that made her giggle?

Did I mention.....

Okay have I mention that I LOVE The Presidents of the United States of America (PUSA)?? Have I? I think I did a few months ago? Did I also mention that they were on tour in KC. Now I realize that if I was a true fan the tour thing would have tipped me off to the fact that there was probably a new album out as well but it seems that moving to Korea kinda gummed up my music chi.

NE WAY! So they have new tunes out and I'm all excited. It also reminds me of why I know that such a cool trio of artists exist. We can thank Greeny the Wennie the Freshman Machiney for that. Despite his errant ways I have to give him props for his musical tastes and also ponder what the heck he as doing at MNU on the first place. So props to you Greeny!

K- Half day in teacher world.

TO THE OUTSIDER
  • This means that I only have to see the kids for 3 hours
  • Show movies
  • And can go home sometime before most people go to work.

TO THE INSIDER
  • This means that I only have a half hour to cover what I usually cover in 1.5
  • ALL of Murphy's Laws are now allowed to happen in concert
  • Noting get's done
  • You spend the whole day frustrated
  • And once the kids leave you get to sit in meetings until 5 PM, making for a LOVELY 10 hour day.
  • That is only if you don't stay late and plan, if you do it becomes a 12-14 hour day.

And I get to do this twice this week.

So in honor of this day I'd like to post a few quotes to laugh at and that's about all.

Misguided Metaphors.....
  • "He floated on the surface of the water like a bowling ball wouldn't"
  • "She caught your eye, like the hook on the screen that hangs down and bounces around everytime you close the screendoor."
Things a debater must do....

  • Write down the ten most irritating habits of your debate partner. (Yes, you'll probably have to leave out quite a few) Then never marry any prospective spouse that possesses any more than two of those habits.

Unrelated to Living in Korea..

So got an ecopy of the Alumni news letter today in my mailbox. Gotta love the simple, concise, virtually useless information that I am provided with in this newsletter. Now to cover my butt, I'd like to say that the information is not virtually useless in the sense that NO ONE could use it, it's just that being in South Korea does not lend itself to basketball games, luncheons and programs to adopt a student, ya know?

But I digress, "The Accent" often has articles written by former students or about hip and happening things that involve former students and I thought, "Hmmm I wonder how many of us have blogs?" So I thought I would do a little search for "MNU blogs" little reaizing the irony that the net had in store for me.

HA HA- Again I forget that acryonyms often mean different things to different people. Though to me MNU=Midamerica Nazarene University, for the rest of the world MNU= Message Not Understood. Now stop and ponder this one for a minute.....

K, if there is no irony in this statement for you please stop reading as the rest of this post does not pertain to you.

Who's still here? Ah, thank you sir in the back, for you I will contine. Now as you know MNU's (and I mean the school) message is about peace, love and homoginization of your local christian for the rest of the world. And as someone who ran around campus ranting for a full 2 years, "YOU CAN NOT TURN ME INTO A GLASS OF MILK!" I laughed a heartly laugh when I saw this little gem. No longer will I have to wear my classring on my middle finger, no more do I have to take blood pressure pills whenever I think of "back in college", and I am SO done with the rants about how I could have paid cash for a house/SUV/small island with the amount I spent there. Because now I know that from the minute that they changed the sign and we went from being MANCer's to MNUer's that for me "the MESSAGE would NOT be UNDERSTOOD."

Spread the VD love around!

...And so I took the road MORE traveled...

So I took the road more traveled today and found it quite enjoyable. I must say that considering it's VD and I have no one to cuddle with this has been the best Monday in recent memory. I was preped for school, we didn't have staff meeting, I left work at 4 instead of 6 or 7, I enjoyed the walk home AND I got stuff done at home. The kitties got a special wet food VD treat, at least some one round here got a fancy VD dinner. AND I got lots of bloging done. So for a day when I still had to go to work I have to say I wouldn't mind doing it again.

Ducks gone wild!!!

A pathetic excuse for an adult

Yep that's me, one sad excuse for 27. So I've finally broken down and bought a vacuum to hopefully reduce the gross amount of cat hair that seems to lilt through my apartment daily. Suppose that should have been done about 3 months ago or more but you all know me and picking out stuff. It takes me hours to decide on a new detergent and that's when it's all in English. Imagine the process when it's happening in Korean. Yeah your huffing and rolling your eyes as we speak and in your head I hear it, "Why God, why? Can't this woman EVER make a decision in under 5 minutes!!??"

"No."

But it's done and I'm 70 bucks poorer. Not to mention that suddenly I am going through my junk food junky stage that most went through in 5th grade. I now eat PB & J on a spoon out of the jars. Gross I know but I can't help it, I'm finally addicted to refined sugar and carbs! THIS is what Korea has done to me.

Ugh.

All right it happened

So here it is February 8th and I finally got homesick for Kansas City. Not just the people the actual place. Or in particular a road. I was fulfilling my obligation as cat butler in cleaning out the litter box when I realized that I would like nothing better at that moment than to be at the corner of Ward and 67th, I believe. Ready to turn left to take the back way to Raytown and drive the curvy road past Ward Park and the Winchester Plant. To feel the smooth asphalt that was freshly laid in July, and the sinuous curve of the road under tires that hugged it, wind in my hair and my hands on the stick ready to shift into third. Ah that right there is a part of KC I miss. And in doing so find myself missing the whole of KC. Funny how one little thing makes you miss a whole town.

Extreme Makeover-World Edition!

Ever have one of those moments when you get real life and tv confused?

Was watching Charmed (yes I know I'm a heathen, but we all have out dirty little secrets and now that one of mine is out in the open you can all rest easier knowing at least I'm not a liar. A thief and a dabbler but NO not a liar!) NEWAY! was watching Charmed- Extreme Makeover World Edition and Charmageddon where the sisters have helped bring about Utopia and then realize it sucks because everyone is all calm and respectful (wouldn't be Utopia if they weren't huh?) and anyone who causes too much conflict simply "goes to a better place". As I was writing to Luna I realized that I live in this "Utopia" and it's called Asia. Now let me relate the two.

In Korea/Asia it is a faux paus to show anger, you follow the rules and all goes well. No matter what you don't get frazzled at lest not publicly. Now this would be all fine and dandy if it wasn't for the fact that unlike Utopia where all the bad feelings are programmed out here we just stew and fester and end up being all passive aggressive. Ahhhh! Why can't we be just a little psycho in public I ask? How can it be bad to just let it out and show people what's really happening on the inside? Ugh, I don't have any answers and I'm just getting all fired up. I better post this before it becomes a rant.....wait, TO LATE!!!

PS- Off to Jeju Island with the science department tomorrow to plan curriculum. YEAH!!! Hope we get stuff done or at least figure out what it is were suppose to be doing on the 4th floor.

Friday, February 04, 2005

So this is your Friday post.

It's Lunar break, 11:30 and I have yet to brush my teeth, YEAH! Though I currently feel the need for a quest of my own I'll have to make due with a marathon "Lord of the Rings" extended version quest. Not quite the same but I get to see Elijha Woods mesmerizing eyes and Orlando Bloom kill Orcs so where's the bad. Oh, BTW I will brush my teeth so I won't be representing the dragon at the end of Episode 1, sorry I still get to be the elf princess.

Deep Blue Something

Well it's AM and I sit here fantastically overwhelmed by all that is undone, and I don't just mean not finished. So I better hop too, but I just wanted all y'all to know that I'd rather be diving.

I want to be on a boat, with a tank on my back and then crash into another world where I all have to do is keep breathing and kick. I soooooo just want to go dive and let everything else stop. So I ask you is 72 degree water really that cold??? I think I can handle it right? I desperately want to.
